aviation lawyer

We are pleased to announce that Mona Bentz has joined Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC. While her practice will remain focused on aviation, trusts and estates in the same manner as our clients are accustomed, the expansive areas of practice and depth of expertise under the Baker Donelson platform will provide an additional benefit to our clients.

Ms. Bentz brings a diverse professional background to her practice. Her experience in employee benefits law and commercial litigation lends a unique perspective to her work with airlines, charter companies and private aircraft owners regarding the complex issues related to aircraft ownership and operations, as well as to her trusts and estates practice related to the smooth transfer of wealth to the next generation.

Ms. Bentz received her B.A. from the University of Iowa with high distinction (top 5% of her class), after which she spent one and a half years working in Germany and studying at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universität in Frankfurt, Germany to complete an International Business Certificate. Ms. Bentz earned her law degree (J.D.) from the University of Iowa College of Law with distinction. She served as a Note and Comment Editor for the Journal of Corporation Law, in which her article “The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993: A Comparative Analysis with Germany” was published. Ms. Bentz obtained her Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in Estate Planning from the University of Miami School of Law.

Following her graduation from law school, Ms. Bentz clerked for the Honorable John A. Jarvey in the United States District Court, Northern District of Iowa. Thereafter, Ms. Bentz worked in Seattle in commercial and employment litigation, and in Chicago in employee benefits law. Ms. Bentz founded the Bentz Law Firm in south Florida in 2010. She became Of Counsel to Polenberg, Cooper PL in 2014.

Ms. Bentz is licensed to practice in Florida, Illinois, Iowa and Washington (she has elected inactive status in her Iowa and Washington state bar memberships). She is a member of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), the Real Property Probate and Trust Law section of the Florida State Bar Association, the Broward County Bar Association, and West Broward Estate Planning Council.
Professionally, Ms. Bentz is passionate about educating people regarding their legal options so that they can make informed choices that will best serve their goals. This approach applies to all aspects of her work, whether in aviation or estate planning.

Ms. Bentz’s strong belief in microfinance (to empower those who are critically impoverished to raise themselves out of poverty) has led to her volunteer work with the Grameen Foundation, Project Enterprise, and Fonkose. Having danced since the age of five and played flute and piano, Ms. Bentz is also committed to supporting the arts. She received the “Substance and Style Award” from the Symphony of the Americas in 2010 and has enjoyed being a part of the Weston Philharmonic Society Board of Directors, including serving as its president and various vice presidential roles.

Ms. Bentz has two children who are her joy and inspiration.
